Evergreen Drift Pro-am round 3 was held on June 15th. Going into the event we had the car setup very much the same as round 2, with the addition of new Driveshaft Shop level 5 axles and some strategically placed expanding foam to try and keep the smoke from entering the driver compartment.
Practice went really well and the changes seemed to be working how they were supposed to. The car count was very low for this round, so we just qualified into a top 8 format. I ended up qualifying 4th and getting paired up with Formula Drift pro Victor Moore.
I led first and had a pretty solid run, It wasn’t until I finished the run that I was told Victor spun out. For my follow run I had decent proximity and thought we would easily advance. The judges however saw it differently and called a one more time. This time on my lead run I missed 3rd gear, but was able to sort things out in time to complete the run. My follow run was closer this time and I was awarded the win and moved on to the final 4.
My final 4 battle was against another Formula Drift pro, Kyle Pollard. After our first set of battles the judges again called a one more time. I had some more issues with 3rd gear and ended up swinging a little wide coming off the bank, so Kyle moved on to the finals and I was thrown directly into the 3rd place battle.
The third place battle was against Michael Klingele. I lead first and coming off the bank he hit me from behind. I tried to save it but ended up spinning out. My follow run was clean and I again assumed that we would be awarded the win due to being hit. Now I know to never assume anything because the judges ruled that the contact didn’t cause the spin, so I got the zero, and 4th place.
All in all it was a good weekend, the car ran well and im already looking forward to seeing all of my Autosport Dynamics and Nitto Tire teammates next month for Formula Drift Seattle!
